On Wednesday, September 7th, in celebration of the Independence of Brazil, members of The
Brazilian Alliance hosted its 7th annual Brazilian Flag Raising at the CT State Capitol. The civic ceremony was followed by a luncheon reception sponsored by Braza Restaurant. The Brazilian flag will fly over the Capitol for a week.
Here are some of the highlights of the event:
Governor Dan Malloy spoke about Brazilians in CT with much gratitude for their diverse economy and vibrant local culture. He says that he looks forward to witness Brazil's progress in the next 25 years.
Among the attendees were ambassador Ronaldo Dunlop, Dilton Dornellas(Webster Bank), Reverend Paulo Franca(Center Church), ABE Waterbury leaders, Carlos & Lucy Nunes, ABE Boston, leader Evelyn Isensee, Eric Galm(Trinity College),
Fernando Rosa (HEDCo), Davi Fernandes(Viridian), Michael Fondecaro(Albany, NY News), supporters/ABE team Bill Palifka, UConn Graduate intern-Camila Laurindo, Julio & Glaucia Faria(Braza restaurant), Silene Deco, Maxwell Ribeiro, local community members, and also Maria Isabela Faria who read the history of Brazil, and Singer and entertainer José Paulo who filled our hearts with pride by performing the national anthems.
