:: BRAZILIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY FLAG RAISING & SOCCER GAME
Every year on September 7th, the Brazilian Independence Day, ABE organizes the only official Brazilian Flag raising ceremony in the USA. The event happens on Hartford City Hall and is attended by Brazilian and American authorities and ABE special guests. The special ceremony ends with a friendly soccer game between ABE Brazil team and other immigrant groups teams.
:: CULTURAL PARADES & PERFORMANCES
Throughout the year, ABE participates of official city parades and organizes cultural performances to gain more visibility to the Brazilian immigrants among the Hartford community, and teach american a little more about brazilian culture. the USA. The event is attended by the diverse pool of friends of ABE, Brazilian and American authorities and ABE special guests.
:: TASTE OF PARKVILLE - Brazilian Cuisine
Every year ABE represents Brazil on the "Taste of Parkville" event, which showcases the best of the international cuisine in the area. The Brazilian Alliance partner with some of the best Brazilian restaurants and Chefs in the area and serves traditional Brazilian foods to the Hartford community.
:: CAPOEIRA CLASSES
Capoeira is and Afro-Brazilian art a ritualized blend of self-defense, dance and music developed during colonial times by African slaves in Brazil to defend and free themselves of oppression. Over-time, Capoeira has become one of the most significant expression of Brazilian culture.
The program taught at The Brazilian Alliance intends to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of afro-brazilians as both a recreational and educational tool to help the youth to overcome the "reflex to violence" propaganda their are been bombarded with, particularly those recruited from Parkville and surrounded neighborhoods.
ABE Capoeira happens every Friday at the Parkville Community School.
:: ABE SOCCER CLINIC & TEAM
The Brazilian Alliance Summer and Indoor Soccer Clinics goas is to integrate inner city children ages 7 to 14 with suburban children and expose both groups to each other’s reality, culture and traditions bridging social gaps through team work and goal oriented activities.
ABE Soccer Team will start soon at Parkville Community School. Stay tuned.
:: EDUCART - PORTUGUESE AS SECOND LANGUAGE, BRAZILIAN CULTURE & ART EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN
EDUCART is an after school art program focusing on children from 1 to 12 years old. The curriculum dialogues with the Brazilian academic activities calendar and is designed to encouraged and expand children’s artistic abilities.
During the classes, the children can choose between preparing homework, learning Capoeira or participating on creative learning activities that will improve their portuguese language skills and their knowledge of Brazilian culture.
EDUC-ART was recently presented to the Parkville Community School, and we hope to start classes next year.
:: BRAZILIAN MOVIE NIGHTS - REEL THURSDAYS
ABE partnered with Reel Thursdays a alternative movie program produced by Migrating Media & Productions and curated by Ana Lourdes Alvarenga, to offer every last Thursday of the month alternative and independent Brazilian movies and documentaries in Hartford,CT.
Reel Thursdays was created in 2007 by MM&P to seed movie clubs among Brazilian organizations in the USA. ABE is one of the 3 institutions chosen to benefited from this program. Check Reel Thursdays calendar.
